Tractor Roller

Tractor rollers are mounted to the 3-point linkage on a tractor, thus making them transportable when compared to the drawbar type typically towed behind ATV and UTV vehicles.

In essence, they do the same job, but the size and range of tractor-mount rollers can extend into larger sizes and, therefore heavier weights, particularly when ballasted with water or sand.

Using a Tractor Roller for Agricultural Land Preparation:

Seedbed Preparation: Before planting, farmers often use ballast rollers to prepare seedbeds. Compacted soil provides a stable and uniform surface for planting crops, ensuring good seed-to-soil contact for germination.

Equestrian Facilities Usage of a Tractor Roller

Horse Arenas: In equestrian facilities, ballast field rollers are used to create a level and firm surface in horse riding arenas. This provides a safe and consistent footing for horses and riders.

Paddocks: Dependent on the soil type (clay, poor draining land) and rainfall levels ballast field rollers can help maintain and improve the condition of equestrian-used fields. “Poaching” is a known problem with horse paddocks when the ground gets very soft in the autumn and winter (wet season), then dries out hard in the spring and summer months. So, it is important to roll the fields before the ground dries out but isn’t still so soft and wet that the tractor causes more damage to the land. It is all about timing!

Landscaping and Turf Roller Applications Management:

Sports Fields: Ballast rollers can be used on sports fields, such as rugby, football, and athletic fields to create a smooth and even playing surface.
Golf Courses: They are used to maintain golf course fairways and greens by compacting and smoothing the turf.

Benefits of Rolling

Typical examples of benefits of using a tractor roller, or indeed any roller with a decent ballasted weight:

  • Improved soil structure and compaction.
  • Reduced risk of soil erosion.
  • Enhanced seed-to-soil contact for better germination.
  • Safe and stable horse paddocks for animal welfare and visual appearance to your horse paddocks.

Top tip: Always remember to drain the water or add a suitable additive to avoid cracking the drum before the winter sets in, should water freeze inside the drum and expand!

Ballasted roller weights are approx based on using water.
