Hay Steamer
Hay Steamer
The hay steamer from Haygain steams hay and haylage, controlling harmful dust mites and reducing and removing bacteria and mould spores in the horses forage. Steaming hay will keep at bay the horse cough, commonly known in the equestrian world as COPD or RAO (recurrent airway obstruction). The patented Haygain steamer will provide your horses with hygienic, dust-free, hydrated, more palatable and easy to digest food. If you are a happy hacker or compete your horse at any level, be it dressage, show jumping, events etc. or you hunt on your horse, don't fall into the trap of cutting corners regarding your animal's health.

Steaming Hay For Horses Benefits
Do you currently soak hay nets or use a homemade steamer?. If so, please be aware that you might be doing more harm than good. The facts are simple, soaking hay can reduce dust but at the same time it can bleach out some of its nutritional value, effectively meaning you will end up with poor quality forage. On the other hand, the steaming method makes the hay more palatable and it won't lose any of its nutritional content. The Haygain steamers have been independently and scientifically tested to give conclusive true FACTS.

What makes this unique patented Haygain steamer work?
- A patented manifold system ensures steaming from the middle of the chest outwards.
- By pressing the hay onto the spikes of the manifold steam system, you get evenly and thoroughly steamed hay and forage.
- The double insulated chest is made of thermally insulated plastic and acts like double glazing to reach and retain the minimum temperature that is required to steam the forage correctly.
- The unique design of the Haygain steamer has proven great results in killing off bacteria, yeast, fungal spores, mould and dust mites, thus producing clean and healthy forage for horses.
- Steamed haylage or hay can be fed up to 24 hours giving maximum effect and benefit to your horse and is light and easy to handle compared to soaked, wet and heavy hay.
- Steaming hay reduces symptoms of the common horse cough known as RAO (recurrent airway obstruction) or COPD.
- The Haygain HG-ONE and the HG-GO models are light to handle, whilst the larger units, the HG600 and HG2000 although heavier, are not hard to manoeuvre as they both have wheels fitted for this purpose.
- Connecting the boilers' flexible pipe to the steamer chest is simple with a snap-on fitting for easy storage when freezing conditions occur or when it is not in use.
- Steaming hay compared to soaking hay for horses uses much less water which can be a massive saving. The Haygain steamer typically uses 3 to 4L of water per steam cycle compared to using 60 to 100L of water if using the soaking hay method.
- Steaming hay produces more hydrated and easily digestible forage making the feed more palatable for the horse.
- Handling steamed hay will effectively reduce the risk of humans developing dust-related respiratory problems.
- Steaming hay does not produce environmental pollutants.
- This innovative product has been designed and manufactured in the UK and has a 1 year guarantee.

Haygain HG2000 steamer
The Haygain HG2000 steamer is our most popular model in the range with the largest capacity. It can hold up to 40Kg of loose hay, haylage or hay nets, almost the equivalent to two bales of hay or you can fit 1 strung bale of hay. We would recommend the HG2000 model for yards with four or more horses. This unit uses the same boiler as the HG600. The number of horses it feeds are an approximate guide only based on portion size, compaction, size of bale and number of steam cycles per day.
Haygain steamer HG600
The HG600 steamers have been designed to feed 1 to 3 horses. The new improved model features the addition of gas struts on the lid to ensure safe opening when loading and unloading the forage. The shape of the chest has also been adapted to reflect the contours of the HG2000 steamer, whilst at the same time maintaining the original forage capacity of 15kg.
This model is ideal for use on the stable yard but is also light and compact enough to fit in a horsebox and a handy size to move around. The robust and thermally insulated hay steamer chest allows temperatures to reach over 100°C, vital for killing mould spores and bacteria in the hay. The unit can hold up to 15kg of forage either in a hay net or loose, the equivalent of half a small strung bale of hay. Its cycle time from cold is 60 minutes, making the process quick and easy.
The 2.75KW steam generator (with a water capacity of 8L) features a stainless steel boiler shell with a domed lid for optimum steam flow and consistent delivery, a robust heating element, and offers safety thermal protection with a “run dry” alarm and warning light. The balanced integrated handle allows easy rinsing of the steamer while the location of the filler spout, with its brass safety release filler cap, prevents overfilling.
A watering can, drip tray, 2 descaler sachets and a filling funnel are included with this purchase.

Haygain HG One Steamer
The HG One will steam 8Kg or one net of hay at a time and comes with a jiffy boiler with a capacity of 3.5L capable of doing a repeat steaming cycle. This product is suitable for use with one horse and possibly two, noting the ability to repeat steam cycle, although most people would tend to use the half bale steamer HG 600. The compact size and weight of this model means that it can be taken to shows and events, giving you additional flexibility. The first cycle requires a minimum of 60 minutes, the 2nd steam if done straight after, requires a minimum of 35 minutes, noting that the steamer boiler will need to be refilled for the 2nd steam cycle. This stainless steel boiler shell has the element located on the outside meaning that damage and limescale build-up is significantly reduced, extending the life span of the heating element.
Note: Hay net not included with the machine.

Haygain steamer HG2002
This unit is like the model 2000, but it comes with two boilers, to enable the steaming of 45Kg of hay or haylage, whether it is loose or in hay nets. This steamer will take a compressed bale of 50Kg. Other than that, there is no difference between the two models mentioned here.
